Forcing Pass Situations

Despite many references to GF, we don't play many high level contested auctions as Forcing.
as a rule, pass is not Forcing.
eg.
1NT (P) 3NT (4H)
P (P) P

Although we might not be in a forcing auction, we double games whenever we want to.

The following auctions are forcing to win the auction or X

  • 1C* (any) any GF
  • 1M (P) 2NT* (4 trumps)
  • 1S (P) 2H*(GF Diamonds)
  • We ask for Keycards
  • 3rd/4th seat 2C openings

High Level Forcing Pass Structure:

X Suggests Penalties (partner can rip it with more playing strength)
Bids Suggest playing, not allowing partner to express an opinion (no slam interest)
Pass No opinion usually, or a hand that wants to make a Slam try without committing
……Over Pass, partner then makes the same choice
……Bid with extra playing strength
……Otherwise X
………..Pass then Pull is slam interest.

Low Level Forcing auctions:

1NT (X) XX is forcing to 2H
(1NT) X is forcing to 2H (This sequence depends on what the opps bids mean).

1M (X) XX is forcing to ??
1M (P) 2C* is forcing to ?? 2M
Cue Raises are forcing to ?? min-trumps
